Ayres Adventures - Europe - Swiss, Italian, French Alps

Ayres Adventures Europe!

With the introduction of our Alpine Adventures, Ayres Adventures is continuing to build upon our reputation for setting a new standard of excellence in the world of guided motorcycle travel.

Your 15-Day Alpine Adventure begins with a selection from the full line of late model BMW motorcycles.  Your accommodations will vary from comfortable upper middle-class hotels to Five-Star accommodations – clearly a cut above.  Although some meals may be provided in our hotels, most of our dining will be a la carte, with a number of dinners in intimate, upscale restaurants.  You will never be presented with a limited-choice, “tourist” menu on any of our tours.

The size of the tour group will be limited to about ten motorcycles, making it possible for us to enjoy the smaller, more intimate lodging and dining that characterize our Adventures.  Our trips are definitely not designed for the masses.

Arrival Day:  Zurich.  The arrival destination for all of our Alpine Adventures is Zurich, Switzerland.  We’ll meet your flight, escort you to your lake front hotel in the pleasant Zurich suburb of Kusnacht, and let you get familiarized with your motorcycle.  In the evening, we’ll enjoy a kick-off celebration dinner at a fine Italian restaurant.

Day 2:  Zurich to Chexbres, Switzerland. The first day will be a fairly easy riding day; a great introduction to riding that lies before you.  We’ll begin by riding south along the shore of Lake Zurich to Meilen, where we’ll take a ferry across the lake and head for the Jaun Pass (pronounced like yawn), then head for the shores of Lake Geneva and the charming little community of Chexbres, where we’ll spend the evening in a luxury hotel overlooking Lake Geneva.

Day 3:  Chexbres to Chamonix-Mont Blanc, France. From Chexbres we’ll head for France, taking an indirect route to Chamonix-Mont Blanc via several French ski resorts.  One of the highlights of the day’s ride will be a beautiful pass just south of the Mont Blanc Massif – Col du Petit Saint-Bernard, or “little Saint Bernard Pass”.

Day 4:  Free Day in Chamonix-Mont Blanc. There’s plenty to do (and plenty of nice riding) in Chamonix-Mont Blanc, and you’re sure to enjoy your free day here, including riding a cable car to the top of Mont Blanc.

Day 5: Chamonix-Mont Blanc to Cannobio, Italy. This will be a “Three-Flag Day” as we leave France, return to Switzerland, and cross into Italy.  On the way to the charming little town of Cannobio, we’ll stop at the Matterhorn Peak – one of the few places where people can ski the entire year.  The glacier is more than 12,000 feet in altitude and the views are truly stunning.

In Cannobio, we’ll settle into a charming little lakefront hotel for the evening.  The hotel is situated on the shore of Lake Maggiore – the second largest lake in Italy.

Day 6:  Cannobio to Livigno.  After beginning our ride along the coast of Lake Maggiore, we’ll head for some of the most beautiful passes in the Alps.  Our hotel is located in the Livignese National Park in the midst of the Rhaetian Alps, between the famous Stelvio and Bernina Passes.  In addition to the Bernina Pass, we’ll have the opportunity to ride the Maloja Pass today.

Livigno is a duty-free town, so you may want to use this as an opportunity for some shopping while avoiding the Italian VAT (value added tax).

Day 7:  Livigno to Riva Del Garda. Once again we’ll ride from the mountains to the Lake – in this instance, Lake Garda, the largest lake in Italy.  The scenery and landscapes on today’s ride will be absolutely stunning.  The day’s ride includes one of the highest and most popular passes in the Alps – Passo Di Gavia.  Many motorcyclists consider the pass their favorite in all of the Alps.  Many parts of the pass are very narrow and without guard rails!

Day 8:  Riva Del Garda to Corvara.Today’s ride marks the start of the Italian Dolomites.  The ride to Corvara, located in the heart of the Dolomites, will be truly stunning, and from our hotel in Corvara you’ll enjoy the great views of the Dolomites.

Day 9:  Rest day in Corvara.Your rest day in Corvara will provide a multitude of great riding opportunities.  Or you may decide to relax in town, do some shopping and take in the local sights.

Day 10:  Corvara to Merano. Today’s ride will include the Timmels Joch Pass, another favorite of Alpine motorcyclists, and concludes with a relaxing stop in a Five Star hotel in Merano.

Day 11:  Merano to St. Moritz, Switzerland. Your first major event of today’s ride will be the most famous motorcycle pass in all of Europe – the Stelvio Pass.  The pass has more than 40 very sharp hairpin turns on each side.  The scenery is indescribably – it must be seen to be believed.  Be sure to stop at the top of the Stelvio for photos and a refreshing hot drink at one of the snack bars or restaurants.

From the Stelvio, you’ll experience another most enjoyable riding day on the way to St. Moritz – one of the most famous towns in Switzerland. St. Moritz is renowned for beautiful landscapes, high fashion, fine cuisine and great hospitality. Chances are you’ll have a great day in St. Moritz, as the sun shines an average of 322 days per year.

Day 12:  St. Moritz to Interlaken. Be prepared for another great riding day, as you ride numerous other famous Alpine passes on your way to Interlaken.  These include the Furka, Nufenen, San Gottardo, Lukmanier, Oberalp, Grimsel and Susten.

Day 13:  Free Day in Interlaken.  What a delightful place to spend a free day – in the middle of Switzerland in a small town that’s nestled between Lake Brienz and Lake Thun with incredible views of the magnificent Jungfrau Mountain. Interlaken is one of the oldest tourist resorts in Switzerland and it remains one of the most popular.

If you’re looking for some off-bike activities, there is no better place to spend a day than Interlaken. Potential activities include bungy jumping, paragliding, sky diving, white water rafting, and such unusual adrenalin-pumping local activities as “Zorbing” (check it out!).

Day 14:  Interlaken to Zurich.  After another great day of riding you’ll arrive back at your hotel with plenty of time to relax and clean up before your special celebration dinner.

Day 15:  Departure Day.  We’ll accompany you to the airport for your flight home.

Our Alpine Adventures afford an ideal opportunity to include non-riding companions. Tours include a large, comfortable support vehicle. Just register your guest as a passenger and let us know that you’d like us to reserve a seat in the support vehicle. Passengers will enjoy all the attractions of the Adventure.
